{"id":4543,"date":"2020-01-16T13:07:58","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T12:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/?p=4543"},"modified":"2021-05-23T07:44:05","modified_gmt":"2021-05-23T05:44:05","slug":"activity-report-2019-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/en\/activity-report-2019-20\/","title":{"rendered":"ACTIVITY REPORT 2019\/20"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>OLIVER DESIGN\u2019S ORDER BOOK FOR 2020 BOUNCES BACK TO PRE-RECESSION LEVELS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Latest contracts point to a 30% increase in sales on 2019, guaranteeing continued business for 2020 and 2021<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Projects completed in 2019 included a tuna vessel for Echebastar, a \u2018shadow boat\u2019 for a luxury yacht, a ferry for Mar de Ons and two patrol boats<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Oliver Design are also continuing work on a range of projects: a cruise ship for Scotland; ferries for French Polynesia and the Balearic Islands; a tug for Ibaizabal; a salmon vessel for a Norwegian firm; two further shadow boats; a range of alterations for Brittany Ferries and development of a sustainable cruise ship, the \u2018Ecoship\u2019<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Getxo. 15 January, 2020<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/\">Spanish naval design and architecture firm <strong>Oliver Design<\/strong><\/a> has got the new year off to an <strong>excellent start<\/strong>: End-of-year figures show a <strong>30% increase in orders<\/strong>, with new contracts guaranteeing plenty of work for at least the <strong>next two years<\/strong>. The stats confirm a gradual <strong>recovery<\/strong> in business in recent years, with the firm now operating at <strong>similar levels<\/strong> to the <strong>pre-2008 period<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oliver Design<\/strong> ended <strong>2019<\/strong> with a very healthy balance sheet<strong>. <\/strong>Highlights for the year included designs for the latest-generation tuna vessel \u00a0<strong>\u2018Aterpe Alai<\/strong>\u2019, built at the <strong>Zamakona<\/strong> shipyard for Spanish shipowner <strong>Echebastar <\/strong>(Bermeo); a sophisticated <strong>shadow boat<\/strong> (service vessel for a super luxury yacht) <strong>\u2018Hodor<\/strong>\u2019, built at the <strong>Arm\u00f3n<\/strong> shipyard in <strong>Burela<\/strong>; the fast ferry <strong>\u2018Mar de C\u00edes<\/strong>\u2019, also being made at Arm\u00f3n,\u00a0 for <strong>Mar de Ons, <\/strong>a shipping line operating in the <em>r\u00edas <\/em>of Galicia (Spain); and two patrol vessels, the first built in <strong>Freire<\/strong> for the <strong>Kuwaiti Fishing Ministry <\/strong>and the second at <strong>Arm\u00f3n<\/strong> for the <strong>Spanish Civil Guard\u2019s Maritime Service<\/strong>. Last year also saw the launch of the <strong>\u2018Scenic Eclipse\u2019<\/strong>, a luxury discovery cruise ship fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, for which <strong>Oliver Design <\/strong>was involved in the architectural design.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Projects currently underway<\/strong> include interior design and outfitting for ten very varied types of vessel:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A small luxury cruise ship, the <strong>\u2018Lord of the Highlands\u2019<\/strong>, which will operate in the Scottish Highlands and Hebrides Isles. The former Turkish passenger vessel has been refurbished in <strong>Vigo<\/strong>, Spain.<\/li>\n<li>A RORO ferry, the <strong>\u2018Terevau Piti\u2019<\/strong>, currently under construction at the <strong>Arm\u00f3n<\/strong> shipyard in <strong>Vigo, <\/strong>which will operate \u00a0routes between the islands of French Polynesia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bale\u00e0ria\u2019s <\/strong>new eco-efficient <strong>\u2018Eleanor Roosevelt\u2019, <\/strong>the world\u2019s first smart fast ferry to be powered by liquid natural gas, now under construction at the <strong>Arm\u00f3n shipyard<\/strong> in <strong>Gij\u00f3n<\/strong>, which will operate in the Balearic Islands.<\/li>\n<li>A 28-metre tug, the <strong>\u2018Ibaizabal Quince\u2019<\/strong> for Ibaizabal, built at <strong>Murueta shipyards<\/strong> and now at the final outfitting phase.<\/li>\n<li>A Life fish carrier vessel, the <strong>\u2018Kristoffer Tronds\u2019<\/strong>, which will transport live fish. The vessel is also being built at <strong>Murueta<\/strong> for a Norwegian shipowner.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Two new shadow boats<\/strong> (support vessels for luxury yachts), which like the <strong>\u2018Hodor\u2019<\/strong> have been commissioned to the <strong>Arm\u00f3n shipyard<\/strong> in <strong>Burela<\/strong> (Lugo).<\/li>\n<li>A range of <strong>alterations<\/strong> to <strong>Brittany Ferries vessels<\/strong>, currently being carried out at Astander shipyard \u00a0in <strong>Santander<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>And a new phase in architectural design of the <strong>\u2018Ecoship\u2019<\/strong>, which, when completed, will be the <strong>world\u2019s most eco-friendly cruise ship<\/strong>, commissioned by the Japanese NGO <strong>Peace Boat<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to these projects, <strong>Oliver Design<\/strong> is also at an advanced stage of negotiations for <strong>new contracts\u00a0<\/strong>including design of a <strong>new ocean cruise ship <\/strong>for a Spanish company, and conversion of a <strong>90-metre motor yacht<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The firm is facing into <strong>2020 and 2021 with excellent prospects<\/strong>. These good business figures are the result of a <strong>diversification strategy <\/strong>which has enabled <strong>Oliver Design<\/strong> to take on a <strong>wide range of services<\/strong> on <strong>all types of vessel<\/strong> on commission from shipowners and shipyards alike.
