Although the four vessels <strong>vary greatly in type<\/strong>, each will be <strong>outstanding in its own sector<\/strong>, encompassing the fishing, <strong>passenger transport<\/strong>, and <strong>super-luxury markets.<\/strong> All four are either operating or about to come into service in such a wide variety of settings as the <strong>Norwegian fjords<\/strong>, the <strong>South Pacific<\/strong> and the <strong>Mediterranean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Between January and April, the Spanish company completed <strong>design and interior outfitting<\/strong> of a <strong>state-of-the-art fishing vessel<\/strong>, <strong>two ferries<\/strong> \u2013one for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balearia.com\/en\"><strong>Bale\u00e0ria<\/strong><\/a> and the other for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/French_Polynesia\"><strong>French Polynesia<\/strong><\/a>\u2013 and an auxiliary vessel for a super-luxury yacht. The vessels were built in various shipyards on the Bay of Biscay: <strong>Vigo (Pontevedra)<\/strong>, <strong>Burela (Lugo)<\/strong>, <strong>Gij\u00f3n (Asturias)<\/strong> and <strong>Erandio (Biscay)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With these contracts, the firm has seen more business than at any point since its foundation in 1990 by naval engineer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jaime-oliver-perez-b2ba8136\/?originalSubdomain=es\"><strong>Jaime Oliver<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 and all this in <strong>2020<\/strong>, a year marked by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Together, the four projects required a total of nearly <strong>95,000 hours&#8217; work<\/strong>, mostly concentrated in the second half of the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u201cKristoffer Tronds\u201d<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first of the four contracts was signed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astillerosmurueta.com\/home\/\"><strong>Astilleros de Murueta<\/strong><\/a>, and was carried out at the shipyard in <strong>Erandio<\/strong>, on the right bank of the <strong>Nervi\u00f3n <\/strong>estuary, near the city of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bilbao\"><strong>Bilbao<\/strong><\/a>. <strong>Oliver Design&#8217;s <\/strong>contribution consisted of design and outfitting of the interior of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/vessels\/KRISTOFFER-TRONDS-IMO-9862011-MMSI-257660000\"><strong>&#8220;Kristoffer Tronds&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>, a latest-generation fishing vessel commissioned by Norwegian shipowner <a href=\"https:\/\/alsaker.no\/\"><strong>Alsaker<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The most striking feature of the vessel is that it is designed to <strong>transport live salmon<\/strong>, from the <strong>fish farms<\/strong> where they are raised on the <strong>Norwegian fjords<\/strong> to <strong>processing plants<\/strong> in a range of Northern European countries. It is fitted with <strong>four wells, <\/strong>with a total capacity for <strong>5,000 cubic metres<\/strong> of water, and equipment for loading and unloading <strong>800 tonnes of fish per hour<\/strong>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/vessels\/WAYFINDER-IMO-9882669-MMSI-319191600\"><strong>&#8220;Wayfinder&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>, a spectacular <strong>67 x 14 metre catamaran<\/strong> with an <strong>aluminium<\/strong> hull, was built at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astillerosarmon.com\/\"><strong>Astilleros Arm\u00f3n<\/strong><\/a> shipyard in <strong>Burela<\/strong> (Lugo, in the <strong>Galicia<\/strong> region). The work, which took over a year, was completed in March of this year. The vessel has a total capacity of <strong>44 <\/strong>(18 own crew and 14 from the mother ship, plus 12 spaces for guests), and the work by the Spanish firm includes a <strong>wide range of spaces<\/strong>: bridge, engine control room, cabins, workshops, stores, infirmary, offices, laundry, galley, food stores, messes, diving room with decompression chamber, disembarkation area, gym, lounges, etc. Interior outfitting was completed in March, and the ship left <strong>Vigo<\/strong> in late April bound for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fort_Lauderdale,_Florida\"><strong>Fort Lauderdale<\/strong><\/a> in <strong>Florida<\/strong> (USA).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4926\" src=\"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-1200x900.jpeg 1200w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-800x600.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3993-385x289.jpeg 385w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u201cTerevau Piti\u201d<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The third major project to be completed by <strong>Oliver Design <\/strong>in the first quarter of 2021 was a <strong>RoPax<\/strong> <strong>ferry <\/strong>(to carry <strong>passengers and freight vehicles<\/strong>), which has now gone into in operation in <strong>French Polynesia<\/strong>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vesselfinder.com\/vessels\/TEREVAU-PITI-SAS-IMO-9883900-MMSI-377698000\"><strong>&#8220;Terevau Piti&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>, is <strong>78 meters long by 17 meters in the beam<\/strong>, and is designed to accommodate <strong>700 passengers,<\/strong> as well as having <strong>500 lane meters of space for freight vehicles<\/strong>. Commissioned by<strong> SNGV 2 Moorea<\/strong>, a ferry operator based in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Papeete\"><strong>Papeete<\/strong><\/a>, it will substantially enhance the company&#8217;s potential to carry tourists and goods between <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tahiti\"><strong>Tahiti<\/strong><\/a> and other islands in the archipelago, including <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bora_Bora\"><strong>Bora Bora<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4939\" src=\"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-1200x900.jpeg 1200w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-800x600.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/oliverdesign.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/img_3564-385x289.jpeg 385w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ferry was built on the slipways at <strong>Astilleros Arm\u00f3n<\/strong> in <strong>Vigo<\/strong>. <strong>Oliver Design <\/strong>took charge of designing and outfitting out the <strong>2,000 square metres of interiors and exterior terraces<\/strong> for <strong>passengers<\/strong> and <strong>crew<\/strong>. The work took <strong>nine months<\/strong> to complete, concluding in <strong>March 2021<\/strong>, and included <strong>outfitting work on four decks<\/strong>: the <strong>engine control room<\/strong>, <strong>changing room<\/strong>, <strong>workshops<\/strong>, <strong>laundry<\/strong>, and six twin <strong>cabins <\/strong>on the lower deck; the <strong>bridge <\/strong>on the upper deck; and on the two intermediary decks, the <strong>passenger access areas<\/strong> and <strong>aft lounge<\/strong> with a 150-seat terrace, plus four <strong>officers&#8217; cabins<\/strong>, <strong>crew&#8217;s mess<\/strong>, <strong>VIP lounge<\/strong> with bar and terrace and two <strong>cabins<\/strong>, as well as another 190-seater passenger <strong>terrace<\/strong>. It is the world&#8217;s first fast ferry to be powered by <strong>natural gas engines<\/strong>, <strong>substantially reducing emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases<\/strong>.
